Belarusian pianist Denis Linnik has garnered increasing recognition in recent years as a vibrant soloist, a sought-after and passionate chamber musician, and an enthusiast in the fields of contemporary and jazz music.
2022–2023 he played recitals in Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, France, and Italy. These performances were accompanied by such competition successes as top honours at the Rome Piano Competition (2022), the Kiefer Hablitzel Music Prize (2022), the Best Performance of 20th-Century Works award at the Sydney Piano Competition (2023), and glowing reviews for his outstanding performance at the Cliburn (USA, 2022) and ARD (Germany, 2022) Competitions.
In 2022, Denis released his debut CD titled Night Wind on the KNS Classical Label. The album features compositions by Janáček, Brahms, and Medtner. In January 2023, his recital at Schloss Ettlingen, Germany, was broadcast on SWR2.
Denis Linnik was born in the small Belarusian town of Maryina Horka. He started his piano studies at the age of seven at the local music school. His talent was immediately recognized, leading to his enrolment at the Gymnasium-College of Arts for gifted children in the capital city of Minsk. Upon completing his studies at the college and the Academy of Music, Denis emerged as one of the most distinguished and promising young Belarusian pianists. His accomplishments included numerous competition victories, performances at all major classical venues throughout Belarus, and even a documentary feature about himself on state television.
In 2017, Denis made the decision to further his studies and artistic development abroad. He became a student of Claudio Martinez Mehner at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, Switzerland. In the last few years, he was also studying with Zoltan Fejervari. After his successful completion of Master Soloist degree in 2022, Denis continues to reside in Basel.
During recent years, he has actively participated in international festivals such as ArtDIALOG, Wien Modern, SOLsberg, 100% Classique, and the Gstaad Menuhin Festival.
Denis’ orchestral biography includes performances with prestigious orchestras such as the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Roma Tre Orchestra, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine, Metamorphosis String Orchestra, M. Zhora Philharmonic Orchestra, and others.
In addition to solo performances, a good half of Denis’ musical activity is devoted to chamber music – often in duo with cello/violin or as part of a trio – and contemporary music. As repetiteur and ensemble member Denis has participated in productions of contemporary operas by composers Michael Hersch, Du Yun and Pascal Dusapin, and holds the position of repetiteur for contemporary music at the University of Music Bern.
