Johanna Kulke started playing the violin and the piano in the age of seven. She attended the talent classes at the music schools Langenthal and Burgdorf and started studying the violin in 2015. Additionally, she took piano lessons and in 2019, she finished her Bachelor’s degree with both instruments. As part of her Bachelor’s project, she organized two concerts in 2018 in which she performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in d minor and Mozart’s Piano Concerto in F major, KV 413. Various master classes complete her musical education.
Johanna Kulke has won multiple prizes with both violin and piano, including prizes at the Swiss Youth Music Competition and the Kiwanis Competition in Burgdorf. She performed as a soloist with the Berne Youth Symphony Orchestra, the la pianta Langenthal and the St. Urban Musikgesellschaft amongst others. Orchestra tours with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and the Lucerne Chamber Philharmony have taken her through Europe, Russia and China. She is concert master of the Berne Youth Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to performing, Johanna Kulke also devotes herself intensively to composing. In February she premiered her own composition SOLO for solo violin at the Academy of Contemporary Music Lucerne. In the same month she performed at the Kreuzfeld Konzerte Langenthal in a duo recital with her duo partner Brenda Maiorini.
Johanna Kulke is a Hirschmann Foundation scholarship holder. Currently she studies in Master of Performance in Lucerne.
