Founded in 2015 in Basel, the Opalio Piano Quintet is a versatile chamber music ensemble that specialise in all chamber music repertoire with strings and piano, from piano quintet and piano trio to string quartet as well as an active performing schedule with the sonata repertoire. The ensemble consists of diverse nationalities and are often praised for their sensibility and subtlety combined with honest passion and risk-taking flair.

The ensemble has won numerous prizes at international competitions such as Ysaye International Competition, International Chamber Music Competition in Pinerolo, Torino, Credit Suisse Jeune Solistes Competition, International Bacewicz Chamber music Competition, Orpheus Competition and the Basel Duo Wettbewerb.

They have performed recitals internationally, and have been invited for festivals such as Engadin Festival, Art Dialogue Festival, Mezzano Romantica, Musikdorf Ernen, Adelboden Swiss Chamber Music Festival, Music for Galway and Spotlight Chamber Music Series amongst many others.

As active enthusiasts of contemporary music they have premiered and performed many new works and are aspiring to grow the new music repertoire for piano quintet. They have had pieces dedicated to the ensemble such as Auf Schritt und Tritt by Stephanie Haensler for piano quintet and Inter(re)actions by Aram Hovhanisyan for piano trio.

Opalio Piano Quintet ensemble was recently welcomed as an European Chamber Music Academy-aspirant ensemble and have studied chamber music with international renowned musicians such as Sir András Schiff, Rainer Schmidt, Claudio Martinez Mehner, Raphael Oleg, Silvia Simionescu, Ferenc Rados, Gabor Takacs, Denes Varjon and many others.

The ensemble have regular lessons with Anton Kernjak.
