Valentine Michaud | FRA | *1993
SIBJA Saxophone Quartet | Sopransaxofon
Valentine Michaud, winner of several prestigious competitions, graduated from the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste in 2018. Since 2015, she has been supported by prestigious Swiss grants.
She performs as a soloist and in chamber music on prestigious stages of the world and is invited to perform as a soloist with various orchestras. As the winner of the Credit Suisse Young Artist Award, she will be the first saxophone player to make her debut at Lucerne Festival in September 2020 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel. Her duo Akmi with pianist Akvilė Šileikaitė (also invited to DAVOS FESTIVAL) is warmly welcomed by audience and critics. They release their first album in spring 2020.
Willing to renew the repertoire of her instrument, Valentine Michaud collaborates with composers of her generation and premieres their works in New Music festivals or as part of her recitals. Member of the Ever Present Orchestra, she currently works with the American composer Alvin Lucier and tours around the world performing his pieces.
A passionate believer in the richness of collaborations between different artistic forms, Valentine Michaud is one of the founding members of SIBJA, a collective of artists gathering musicians, dancers and visual artists. The collective created the trilogy WAITING FOR AMON, made of three performances. The trilogy has aroused interest and enthusiasm of both audience and critics and was awarded with the Prize of the Nico Kaufmann Foundation in 2018.
After the invitation to DAVOS FESTIVAL in 2019 Valentine Michaud will again perform in this year’s programme.
