Czech cellist Vilém Petras studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague with Michal Kaňka. During his Bachelor studies, Vilém studied also with Peter Bruns at Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy in Leipzig for one year. His previous teachers were Mirko Škampa, Martin Škampa and Sergey Kalyanov.
Vilém Petras was awarded the 1st prize at the National Competition of Czech Conservatories and at the Talents for Europe competition. He also received the Croatian String Teachers Award at Antonio Janigro Cello Competition and is a laureate of the International Radio Competition Concertino Praga. He took part in solo masterclasses with Jens-Peter Maintz, Alisa Weilerstein, Emil Rovner or Silvija Sondeckiene.
As a soloist, Vilém Petras appeared with Prague Symphony Orchestra, PKF – Prague Philharmonia and the Pilsen Philharmonic. Futhermore, he was a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra where he had the possibility to work with world-renowned conductors like Vasily Petrenko, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Gianandrea Noseda or Bernard Haitink.
Between 2014 and 2016, Vilém Petras was a member of the PKF – Prague Philharmonia Orchestra Academy and in the following two years, he was a member of the Orchestra Academy of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. While working with these two orchestras, he played under the guidance of Semyon Bychkov, Jiří Bělohlávek, Jakub Hrůša, Emanuel Villaume and many others.
