Cello
Recognized as one of the most outstanding cellists of her generation, Alba Urbano is establishing an increasingly prominent presence in the musical scene. She has combined her training with an intense chamber music career and participation in some of the most renowned youth orchestras in Europe. Since 2023, she has been studying at the Reina Sofía School of Music under Professor Jens Peter Maintz, within the Aline Foriel-Destezet Cello Chair.
Her involvement with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester since 2022 and the Verbier Festival Orchestra since 2023 has placed her among the most active young performers on the European scene, collaborating with distinguished conductors and soloists in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals. Since 2024, she has also been a member of Musethica, a project that combines musical excellence with social commitment through concerts in unconventional settings.
She has been selected to participate in academies and festivals such as the Rutesheim Cello Akademie, the Salzburger Festspiele, the Procello Foundation, and the Verbier Festival itself, where she has also developed her chamber music activity.
As a student of the Reina Sofía School, she has worked under the baton of Péter Csaba (Freixenet Orchestra) and Zsolt Nagy (Sinfonietta), and has been a member of ensembles such as the Pérez-Llorca Haydn Quartet and the Fundación Mahou San Miguel Trio, receiving chamber music instruction from Marta Gulyás and Heime Müller. She is currently a member of the Schubert Quartet, formed within the Reina Sofía School, with which she was awarded First Prize at the 2024 Antón García Abril Competition and the Prize for Best Performance of Catalan Music at the Montserrat Alavedra Competition, also in 2024 in Terrassa.
She trained with Beatriz Blanco and Fernando Arias at the Vorarlberg Landeskonservatorium (Austria) and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid, and has furthered her development through masterclasses with prominent cellists such as Michal Dmochowski, Danjulo Ishizaka, Claudio Bohórquez, Paolo Bonomini, Kazimierz Michalik, Gabriel Schwabe, Rafael Rosenfeld, Alban Gerhardt, Norbert Anger, Kian Soltani, and Pablo Ferrández.Her upcoming engagements include concerts in festivals and academies across Europe, as well as an active concert schedule throughout Spain.
