Carles Chordà Sanz

He is currently Principal Horn of the Orquesta del Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, horn and chamber music professor at the Conservatorio Superior del Liceu, and a founding member of the SenArts Wind Quintet. With the quintet, he has won 3rd Prize and the Online Prize at the ARD-Musikwettbewerb in Munich, 2nd Prize at the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen, 1st Prize at the BBVA Montserrat Alavedra, and 2nd Prize, the Audience Prize, and the Xavier Montsalvatge Prize at the Concurso Internacional de Música de Les Corts.

He has collaborated with orchestras such as the Staatsoper Hamburg, Bayerische Staatsoper, Oper Frankfurt, Musiciens du Louvre, Mariinsky Orchestra, Hessischer Rundfunk, WDR Sinfonieorchester, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, among others. He also has taken part in chamber music festivals such as the Delta Chamber Music Festival, Fermate Musik Festival, and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra Brass Ensemble.

He completed his horn studies between Barcelona and Germany with Rubén Chordà, Will Sanders, and Christian Lampert. Under Lampert, he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Performance with top honors at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.
