Marija Strapcane

A native of Riga, Latvia, since 2021 Marija Strapcāne has been extensively touring around the world as a musician in the Gidon Kremer's led chamber orchestra "Kremerata Baltica" and, since 2023, pursues advanced studies in Basel focusing both on modern and baroque violin and chamber music. Before she studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et Danse de Lyon with Prof. Marianne Piketty and at the Zurich University of the Arts with Prof. Nora Chastain. During her time in Lyon was the start of discovering her passion for Baroque violin and receiving instruction from Prof. Odile Edouard. In Basel her professors include Rainer Schmidt, Leila Schayegh and Anna Gebert.

Marija Strapcāne has participated in numerous masterclasses and received valuable lessons from artists such as Alexis Galperine, Barnabas Kelemen, Philippe Graffin, Gerard Poulet, Stéphanie-Marie Degand, Olivier Charlier, Rollo Kovac, Krzysztof Wegrzyn, and Alissa Margulis.

She has participated in numerous international music festivals, including Musique aux 4 Horizons in Ronchamp, Chamber Music Connects the World in Kronberg, Lockenhaus Kammermusikfest, Fontainebleau Schools of Music and Fine Arts, Projecto Musical Villa de Lerma and MusaE in Spain.

She performs on a French violin made by Albertus Blanchi in Nice, dated 1905.
