Swiss-based pianist Dmitry Batalov, born in Moscow in 1997, received his professional education at the Central Music School and Moscow Conservatory P.I.Tchaikovsky with Natalia Trull. In 2022, he moved to Switzerland and began his studies at Basel Music Academy with Claudio Martinez Mehner, Tobias Schabenberger and Anton Kernjak, previously completing a master in contemporary music performance and nowadays being a postgraduate student.

His first international success came at the 14th Orleans Piano Competition (France, 2020), where he won the 2nd prize and 4 special prizes. Since then, he won the 1st prize of Reate festival competition in Rome (November 2023), the 1st prize of the John Cage Award in Halberstadt (Germany, August 2024), the 2025 Göhner Musikpreis of Kiefer Hablitzel Stiftung and, most recently, the 1st prize of Concours Nicati 2025 in Lucerne (in the Interpretation Solo category).

His active repertoire spans from early Baroque to the music of present day, counting dozens of monographic and conceptual recital programs – among which the dialogs between classical and contemporary music take the central place.

He worked together with such composers as Helmut Lachenmann, Salvatore Sciarrino, Tristan Murail, Philippe Hurel, Marco di Bari, Fabio Vacchi, Vladimir Gorlinsky, being also an active collaborator with young composers and the first performer of their works.

In recent years, he has been a participant of the Voices Berlin Festival, Tzlil Meudcan Festival, Bartolomeo Cristofori piano festival in Padova, KlangART Vision festival, Ruemlingen New Music Festival, Sommersprossen festival in Rottweil, Beethoven Piano Club in Bonn, Fereienkurse in Darmstadt, Impuls festival in Graz, Moscow contemporary music Forum, among others. His stage partners include both renowned musicians such as soprano Sarah Maria Sun, conductors Heinz Holliger and Ilan Volkov, and emerging young international soloists. He is collaborating regularly with Divertimento Ensemble in Milan.

Anton Goshovsky
