Trio Concept

Born in Turin in 1998, Lorenzo Nguyen completed his piano studies at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatoire in Turin with Claudio Voghera and at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Filippo Gamba.

As a soloist, he has performed with the Orchestra of Teatro Regio Torino and the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra (Taipei). He has collaborated with outstanding artists such as Bruno Giuranna, Giampaolo Pretto, Luca Ranieri, Mathieu Herzog, Dmitry Matvienko, and dancer Roberto Bolle.

Lorenzo is the co-founder and pianist of Trio Concept, with which he has won numerous national and international competitions. The Trio Concept was selected as an ECHO Rising Star for the 2025/2026 season and, following a three-week residency at the Verbier Festival Academy in 2024, received the Prix Yves Paternot, the festival’s highest distinction, awarded for its “extraordinary talent and artistic value”. In 2023, the ensemble became a YCAT Artist after winning the final at Wigmore Hall in London; in the same year, it won First Prize at the Schoenfeld International Competition in Harbin (China) and was selected as ensemble-in-residence at ProQuartet in Paris.

In Italy, Trio Concept won Second Prize (with First Prize not awarded) and three special prizes at the Premio Trio di Trieste in 2019, becoming, with an average age of just twenty, the youngest chamber ensemble ever awarded in the history of the competition. The Trio was also selected by the Accademia Chigiana jury as winner of the Premio Giovanna Maniezzo, named Ensemble of the Year 2020/2021 by Le Dimore del Quartetto, and chosen as ensemble-in-residence for Comitato Amur in 2023/2024.

Upcoming highlights include returns to Wigmore Hall (London) and the Verbier Festival, as well as debuts at major venues such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Musikverein Vienna, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, and the Tonhalle Zurich.

Alongside music, Lorenzo has long pursued a strong interest in other cultural fields. In 2014 he published, with Loescher, the book Another Island (Un’altra isola), written at the age of twelve, telling the story of his father, who fled war-torn Vietnam in 1979. He recently earned a degree in Economics and Management for Arts, Culture and Communication at Bocconi University in Milan, with the aim of bringing new generations closer to the beauty of classical music.
